The Table (La mesa): A sculpted space for encounter, exchange, reciprocity and circulation between rural and urban cultivators.

The Estación de La Sabana rail station is a residual space from Colombia’s industrialisation (end of 19th Century). It was a central point of encounter in Bogota, where the country’s railroads met, but is in disuse today. This project proposed transforming a ruined, abandoned space into an orchard, with a view to awakening and opening dialogue on the collective consciousness via routes of circulation and existing rural-urban relationships. The participants were a group of smallholders who had migrated to the city and a group of smallholders who still lived in the countryside, and who had in common that they continued to cultivate their rural and urban orchards.
The situational experience of this encounter brought into the present via forms of expression and narratives the social exchange and cultural reproduction associated with their histories and their trajectories to the present day. Heritage knowledge was shared within the context of the relocation dynamic of migrant communities.
The project’s meeting points - the orchard and the table - were the activators of the encounter and facilitated reciprocity and circulation. The installation of a relational, physical and symbolic space allowed the two communities, via observing and interacting with the orchard installed by the project, to refer to the practices of cultivation and cooking, and strategies for environmental sustainability in the city and the countryside.

Grupo de trabajo
Trixi Allina: Artista y Antropóloga, artista independiente con una larga trayectoria académica en la Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Experiencia en arte colaborativo y desde el ejercicio sobre lo fotográfico.
Alejandro Jaramillo: Artista audiovisual y de performance. Tiene también experiencia en televisión pública dirigida a la infancia y la juventud. Su trabajo se centra en la relación entre las historias de vida particulares con los relatos e imágenes dominantes de los medios de comunicación.
Lorena Lopez: Busco en el cuerpo, el espacio contenedor de vida, de experiencia, de sueños, de evocaciones, de designios de voces silentes; de las palabras rotas y desgastadas en su afán para contar lo incontable y decir lo decible. De la ambigüedad y rotura del lenguaje hablado enfrentado al encuentro de otras presencias que celebran el fugaz momento de la epifanía.
Valentina Arocha: Artista visual, interesada por la imagen y el espacio. La fotografía resulta ser el proceso que logra de la manera más intima capturar su suspiro.
Maytik Avirama: Interesada en la exploración de la relación hombre-naturaleza, desde diversos ámbitos del conocimiento. Ecóloga humana y Paisajista sonora, entiende el sonido como fuente sensible para entender realidades.
